Search for Glory (DVD)
Documentary / Rated PG
Narrated by: LES MURRAY of SBS a one hour television special looking at the progress and standing of African football (soccer) from Casablanca to the Cape. It explores not only the stars of the game, but the influence of their culture and roots on both player and public. It features the role of witchcraft, social politics, traditions and ambitions, blending the mystique with the action and drama. From humble beginnings, football’s (soccer’s) progress in the last decade in Africa has been enormous, first with Cameroon in the 1990 World Cup and then Nigeria as 1996 Olympic Champions.
The likelihood of the next Pele or Maradona coming from Africa is very real. In Africa idols are born on the football field and carry more political weight than most Presidents. Producer-Director-Writer, Rod Hay, has a wealth of experience in Africa, and over twenty years in the game. (Note: PG rating, film contains some Animal Slaughter). Extras on this DVD include African music videos, director’s interview.
Note: This DVD is PAL (Australia, UK, some Europe) and may not be compatible with NTSC systems (US, Canada, Japan).
