Nkumba Rumba Dance Performance
Nkumba Rumba is a series of Congolese/Ghanaian dance performances opening at Harbour Esplanade North, Docklands on 1 July, 2.30pm, celebrating Democratic Republic of Congo Independence. It will transform Docklands into Melbourne’s ‘heart of danceness’ with a fusion of traditional and contemporary dance accompanied by live drumming and stunning photography. Experience rhythms that invoke joy and vitality; indulge in cheeky African folklore and humour; witness dance moves that make your jaw drop and your pelvis rock!!!
Featuring some of Melbourne’s acclaimed multi-talented, multicultural performers: Passi Jo, award-winning musician, dancer and choreographer (Congo);awe-inspiring Asanti Dance Theatre’sArtistic Director Appiah Annan and performersJulius Sackey and Ekow Crentsil (Ghana); Javier Fredes, master percussionist/drummer (Chile); Kojo Noah Owusu, master drummer (Ghana); Pam Kleemann, respected photographer and conceptual artist (Australia).
All performances are free, so bring your family, tell your friends. Be part of the ripple effect that unites the global family in an afternoon of colour and rhythm at Docklands.
