Team Africa will make their debut at the 2012 Harmony Cup in Melbourne. Tryouts for the team are being held Gosch’s Paddock, Punt Road at 2pm on Sunday 18 December.

To be eligible to represent Team Africa you must have either been born in Africa or have a parent that was born there.

Harmony Cup Info
The Harmony Cup features teams drawn from Melbourne’s migrant communities. The aim of the event is twofold:

1. to celebrate Melbourne’s ethnic diversity and harmony, and
2. use the sport of Australian football, as Australia’s only indigenous sport, to break down cultural and ethnic barriers. We may come from many different backgrounds but we are all Australians.

The Harmony Cup is an official Harmony Day event. Six teams from Melbourne’s multicultural communities will compete – Albania, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Turkey and Team Africa.

Each team will play a minimum of 3 and maximum of 4 matches under the banner of their country of origin and in their national colours. A special jumper has been designed for Team Africa, containing the pan-African colours of red, yellow, green and black.

The two teams that are ranked first and second at the conclusion of the preliminary round of matches will play each other in the Grand Final. The winner will be awarded the Harmony Cup by AFL Legend Ron Barassi.

Supporting African Footy provides a real opportunity to make a positive contribution to the health and well-being of both young indigenous men and young people in Africa.

Well finally, we are ready to meet and greet all those progressive and likeminded people who are interested to part of the African Chamber of Commerce NSW. Following on the success of the African Chamber of Commerce SA, we conclude that NSW also has many people from African descent that would like to forward the development opportunities for the African Diaspora.

We have called a meet and greet meeting for the 28th August 2011 at 1pm at the offices of Koori Radio level 3, 27 Cope Street, Redfern. We will provide information regarding the chamber, the services that could be provided, project initiatives and how we can all be part of developing business opportunities.

We are truely looking for a response from as many African communities as possible which will provide a good representation of African nationalities in NSW.

If you are interested to know more about the African Chamber of Commerce NSW, please give me, Patricia Attard-Daniels, a call on 0420704122 or email me at shebacaravan@gmail.com

We look forward to your attendance
