Launched by an African Australian in 2004, AfricanOz website has been a leader in publishing magazine style features on African Australians, and continues to be a vital resource for individuals, communities and media around Australia.
In early 2010, we launched a special print newspaper/magazine that received a terrific response from readers and subscribers across Australia. Over the years we’d seen other African Australian newspapers and magazines with locally relevant news – but we wanted to provide a national publication that would be relevant to communities from across Africa around Australia, as well as those interested in Africa in Australia.
Some history: In 2004, AfricanOz became the first broad-based African Australian ‘portal’ offering free African events listings, Music, Study, Communities and other links and resources.
AfricanOz was set up with the aim of improving community access to the web, showcasing African Australian arts and culture for everyone to enjoy, and raising the profile and understanding of Africa in Australia.
In addition to the core people who maintain the site, there are contributors across Australia. If you would like to contribute – it could be a photo, an article, a recipe, an info snippet, even just a quick email asking us to let readers know about a new event or program – Please fill the form below.
